  • WHAT IS CUPPING THERAPY?

Cupping therapy is a local suction is created on the skin with the application of heated or vacuum cups. In Chinese, cupping is known as "pulling-up jars" (Chinese: 拔罐; pinyin: báguàn).

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF CUPPING?

Dispel stagnation (stagnant blood and lymph), thereby improving Qi flow, in order to treat respiratory diseases such as the common cold, pneumonia and bronchitis. Also is used on back, neck, shoulder and other musculoskeletal conditions. It also helps to release tension and increase blood flow to activate your immune system.

Drawing tissue into a cap placed on the targeted area by creating a partial vacuum – either by the heating and subsequent cooling of the air in the cup, or via a mechanical pump. The cup is usually left in place for somewhere between five and fifteen minutes.

Make sure to drink plenty of water after your session to assist in the removal of metabolic waste and promote muscle hydration. It is advised to avoid strenuous physical activity and best to rest following treatment.

  • WHAT IS MOXIBUSTION/MOXA?

Moxibustion (Chinese: 灸; pinyin: jiǔ) is a traditional Chinese medicine therapy which consists of burning dried mugwort (wikt:moxa) on particular points on the body. It plays an important role in the traditional medical systems of China, Tibet, Japan, Korea, Vietnam, and Mongolia. Suppliers usually age the mugwort and grind it up to a fluff; practitioners burn the fluff or process it further into a cigar-shaped stick. They can use it indirectly, with acupuncture needles, or burn it on the patient's skin.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF MOXIBUSTION?

Practitioners use moxa to warm regions and meridian points with the intention of stimulating circulation through the points and inducing a smoother flow of blood and qi. It can treat conditions associated with the "cold" or "yang deficiencies" in Chinese Medicine. moxibustion mitigates against cold and dampness in the body, and can serve to turn breech babies.

The Acupuncturist Dr places a small cone of moxa on the skin at an acupuncture point and removes the burning moxa before the skin burns skin. There is also stick-on moxa.

  • WHAT IS CHINESE HERBAL MEDICINE?

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF CHINESE HERBAL MEDICINE?

Chinese herbal products have been studied for many medical problems, including stroke, heart disease, mental disorders, and respiratory diseases (such as bronchitis and the common cold), and a national survey showed that about one in five Americans use them.

Chinese patent medicine (中成藥; zhōng chéng yào) are standardized herbal formulas. From ancient times, pills were formed by combining several herbs and other ingredients, which were dried and ground into a powder. They were then mixed with a binder and formed into pills by hand. The binder was traditionally honey. Modern teapills are extracted in stainless steel extractors to create either a water decoction or water-alcohol decoction, depending on the herbs used.
